Word Processing Computer Use Policy
To use a wordprocessing computer, register with the librarian, present a valid library card and read this policy.
Up to two-hour appointments may be made in person or by phone one week in advance. Walk in access may also be available. Users arriving more than 10 minutes late will forfeit their reserved time.
Please use only the programs provided.- No changes or temporary modifications may be made to the hardware or software.
Learning to use wordprocessing programs is best done by doing. Make use of help screens and manuals provided. Library staff are not able to provide help on the use of either WordPerfect or Microsoft Word.
Users are responsible for printing at 10 cents per page for all text pages printed. To insure privacy and preserve memory, save your work to a personal disk only. (Not the "C" Drive.) Office supplies and equipment are NOT available for use. (Disks, staplers, tape, scissors, etc.)
Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. No more than one person may work at a terminal with an exception for children under 11.
Using a wordprocessing computer after reading these guidelines constitutes acceptance of the Library's policy.
Legal and Acceptable Computer Use
People may only use the Library's computers for legal purposes.
Examples of unacceptable uses include but are not limited to the following:
- Harassment of other users or violation of their privacy;
- Displaying text or graphics which may reasonably be construed by the library staff as offensive to the public;
- Representing oneself as another user;
- Libeling, slandering or maliciously offending other users;
- Obstruction of other people's work by overuse of system resources;
- Attempting to crash, degrade performance of, or gain unauthorized access to the Library's computer systems and networks;
- Damaging equipment, software or data belonging to the Library or other users.
Misuse or abuse of library computers may result in loss of computer use or Library privileges. Illegal uses of computers may also be subject to prosecution by local, state or federal authorities.
