Teen FCC Telecommunications Presentation

Teens: we are hosting representatives from the Federal Communications Commission's Consumer Affairs and Outreach Division as they give a short 45 minute educational presentation to teens about safe telecommunications use. It will be on Friday, June 28th from 3:00-3:45 PM, and we will begin our Teen Anime Night directly afterward. This is for teens 6th to 12th grade. Please join us and get a chance to meet with representatives from the FCC!

Beginning on June 24, the FCC’s Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau will tour the Mid-West Region visiting cities in Minnesota and Wisconsin. This “Rural Tour” will be the fourth of a series to build partnerships and educate rural communities on FCC topics to assist consumers with their telecommunication needs. The purpose of this visit is to answer questions and help address telecommunication issues the teens may have.

Topics they plan to cover will include:

- Unwanted calls including robocalls and spoofing
- Telephone billing issues including slamming and cramming
- Protecting your smart devices from being lost or stolen\
- Broadband and digital inclusion: encouraging everyone to get online
- The ongoing broadcast transition and how broadcast TV stations in your area may be affected
- How to file informal complaints using our online Consumer Help Center
- Tip cards, posters and other outreach materials

In addition, we will discuss “Distracted Driving” as they apply to teens.
