The Portage Public Library is hosting Goodwill SCWI & IRS Partnership (or, VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Partnership) as they offer FREE INCOME TAX PREPARATION for those looking for assistance. This is not a Portage Public Library program, so any questions or clarifications should be sent to the Goodwill SCWI & IRS Partnership.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Individuals can schedule TWO separate 15-minute appoints on different days. The first appointment will be to drop off information. The second will be to pick up and review with tax preparer. This is NOT a drop-in program. We have three dates at the library, and three other dates will be held at the Goodwill store on American Legion Drive.

Certified volunteers provide FREE valuable tax assistance to low-income workers and individuals. Through Goodwill SCWI’s volunteer income tax assistance program known as VITA, trained volunteers provide FREE valuable tax assistance to low-income workers and individuals They help prepare income tax returns, answer questions and refer taxpayers to other resources as needed. Your local Goodwill provides this free tax preparation assistance in partnership with the IRS and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
With the help of over 25+ local volunteers, Goodwill SCWI’s 2020 VITA program grew to serve over 900 neighbors and community members.
Please note that taxes will not be prepared in-person in 2021. All appointments will be scheduled as Valet VITA. This brief appointment consists of arriving during your scheduled time with your paperwork prepared, signing additional consent forms, and returning to the building once we have completed your return. In order to keep everyone safe we are limiting the in-person interaction. Also, while receiving VITA services, masks are required. If you are unable or unwilling to wear a mask we ask that you utilize our self-preparation option.
Please complete the required intake forms. To reduce in-person appointment length, we are requiring that taxpayers attend the appointment with these forms already completed.
